Back to normal living

Tuesday we awoke to a heavy rain.  It had stormed during the early morning before daybreak leaving everything quite wet where we had planned to work.  We ate the breakfast Evelyn had made, and then Don went to work again.  He had cut the planks yesterday with Gary’s skill saw.  He finished around noon and had Evelyn’s delicious gumbo for lunch.  Don and Janice wanted to return to Billy Graham’s Training Center the Cove because it had been closed yesterday.  We had 5 tour guides in different parts of the building.  The first was a man who told about how the chapel was planned.  Then another volunteer showed a film that featured the history of the building process.  A third met us in the chapel proper where some services and weddings are held.  It had a pulpit more than 400 year old and a beautiful piano on hardwood floor.  We had seen a room with Billy Graham memorabilia before coming up there.  We then went to the prayer room where we knelt and prayed together before returning home.  We were tired and knew had to rise early in the morning, so we went to bed after supper.

We had planned to arise at 6 AM to leave for the GSP airport, but somehow I had changed our clock, causing it to wake us at 5.  We could have gone back to sleep but didn’t.  We were on the road by 6 and stopped just south of Asheville for breakfast.  We enjoyed our final hours together and arrived at the airport exactly 2 hours before their flight as the government recommends.  We bid them adieu and went off on our way home.  We did not travel the Interstate back because we had driven past a long line of stopped traffic heading north as we had driven south.  We had to go through cities but at least we kept moving.  We also filled our gas tank with $3.20 fuel.  It is always delightful to visit SC where the gasoline tax is low.  We went through Asheville on the way home so I could get an insurance quote from GEICO.  I had received a quote on line but wanted to make sure I got an apples to apples quote.  I have to get one from Texas because the agent in NC can’t do that.  We were home for lunch and went down for a nap shortly afterward.  We went to choir practice at 6:30 and went to bed at 10:30 after watching TV for the evening.

Thursday I talked Marty into playing golf at Iron Tree.  Evelyn had her ladies’ Bible study and had 12 women in attendance.  We had a normal round of golf.  I did break 100 but must remember that is an “accurate” score.  We have legitimate scores and accurate scores.  We might take some “mulligans” and hit an extra shot on occasion.  We do take penalty strokes most of the time but not always.  Hence the “accurate” label.  It happened that Evelyn and I arrived home at very nearly the same time.  We had lunch before I showered, and then we both took a nap.  I have never understood why getting in and out of a cart could make me so tired but it does.  Strangely enough, Evelyn wanted to walk around Lake Junaluska so that she could get some exercise, but she learned a hard lesson.  When we got half way around, she was pooped.  She continued but struggled.  I stopped to talk with some Church of the Brethren people from IN.  They were attending a conference at the lake.  I encouraged them to contact our friends the Musselmans to learn about the Brethren Way of Christ.  I pray they will.  E. and I finished the walk alone.  We came directly home from the lake although we could have gone to town.
