Braving the cold, windy 40’s

Sunday we decided to go to the local Wisconsin Synod church to worship.  I had wanted to go to Church of The King again, but we had planned to go to Sharyland High School with John and Sue in the afternoon.  This meant we would have to drive because they had no heat in their car.  I would have to drive to McAllen twice in 1 day.  I was amazed that the pastor had printed copies of his sermon and had left them in the foyer.  That didn’t amaze me but his presenting it word for word did.  He  must have memorized all of it.  Obama would have had a teleprompter and not done as well.  We went to Dollar Tree on the way home for lunch.  We rested until 2:45 when we drove to pick them up, but visited Sally Erchinger on the way.  John and Sue were appreciative of the heat in our car.  We saw the play Footloose performed by high school students.  They choreographed, costumed and built the set.  It was well done and the acting was good by some, but the play is unentertaining.  They did the best they could with the material.  We went to Don Pepe’s Mexican restaurant because I had a coupon.  We all enjoyed the food again (we had been there last week) and had a pleasant ride home.  We were home before 9.

Monday we slept a bit late.  Evelyn had slept well through the night.  After breakfast we attended the park meeting, an event neither of us really enjoys.  We used to go to find things to do during the week.  Now we just went.  We saw John and Sue who arrived to give blood and we invited them to come for hot chocolate and the Scripture reading Sue will do next Sunday.  They wouldn’t come in because it was too cold.  We stayed in our warm house and took a nap after a lunch of some leftovers from last night.  We napped in the afternoon and entertained our new neighbors and Judy for dinner.  We served lasagna and visited for a while.  The new couple, Jack and Sue, are from far northern Canada.  They seem quite quiet but are reputed to be great partyers.  We watched the semi finals of DWTS and went to bed.

Evelyn didn’t get to sleep until 2 because she was in pain.  I got up and went to a meeting at 8 concerning an effort to combat some of the corruption in the city government.  There were about 20 in attendance.  The big concerns deal with harassment and intimidation of employees and teachers.  The education system seems to be controlled by the city government.  It is no surprise because all of the government, judges, and law enforcement are all corrupt in this area.  I went to talk with our friends, Joe and Randy Winston, and learned that they had been threatened by some of the influential people in town.  They don’t’ dare participate in the group this morning.  I returned home to find Evelyn up ready for lunch.  At 1 we went to John and Sue’s to play dominoes.  He had taken the car to have the heater repaired but found the dealership was too busy to work on it.  We enjoyed the game and a couple of beers before coming home for supper of popcorn and entertainment of watching the finals of DWTS.  We have to do some cleaning tomorrow.
