Settling down
Saturday we helped with the memorial service until 4. There were more people we had planned for and we had to clean up and reset all the tables. We were tired and didn’t go to the Shindig on the Green as we had planned. We did make an appearance at the festival down in Frog Level but there was a light rain which really ruined the party.
We had a great worship service and then took Betty Golden to her new apartment where she had invited us for dinner. She is quite old and was barely able to get around but did get the dinner served with Evelyn’s help. She served a German dish we had never heard of. We wrote the name down but can’t find it. We came home around 3:3o and took a nap before our guests came to play hand and foot. We had Sam and Barbara, Gary and Linda, and us. We played with 3 on each team and the men won. We served only popcorn and drinks, and we all had a great time. We broke up shortly after 9 because Linda gets up at 4:30 each morning to work out, so she needs to be in bed by 9—usually. We cleaned up the kitchen and went to bed.
Monday we went to exercise after breakfast. Evelyn decided that she didn’t want to continue with the high protein diet, so I made a breakfast for us. After exercise, I dropped Evelyn at home and went to the Open Door to serve in the soup kitchen. We had stopped at the church to get the DVD she needs for Thursday and found some friends there working on the plumbing. I watered our plants when I came home and am always surprised to find how quickly and thoroughly that perks them up. We spent the evening at home.
Our neighbor Diane had flown to Florida yesterday, so we decided to go visit her husband Bill at the nursing home about a half mile from here. We listened to our voice mail and decided to go to town to get some earrings that Evelyn had left at a jewelers. He was not there, and we there before 5. We mailed a card to a friend who had undergone surgery yesterday, and then decided to go to the GO Grocery for some yogurt. They had none, but we bought $38 worth of other things before coming home. After we had stored the items, we walked down to the nursing home to visit Bill. We took a bear claw candy to him. We also visited Peggy Thomas again. We walked back home and ate the roasting ears we had bought this afternoon. It was delicious. We watched TV in the evening. We are expecting rain on Friday. Strangely, even though we have had several promises of rain, we have had only half of what we had last year. We will look forward to it.
