bad news from the Valley
We were blessed by worship and Holy Communion today. Our choir sang “O, the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus” during the offering. Rosalind, the organist, and her husband Herb came for dinner of rock Cornish hen, Texas Caviar, green beans, sweet potatoes and peaches, and Butterfinger ice cream. They are moving into a new house and have been painting, etc. All week so we thought we would give them a respite by providing a meal for them. They appreciated it. They left and Evelyn rested while I worked at watching the Cubs play Pittsburgh. I am amazed at how well they are playing right now and hope they continue through October. I found Bruce Waters’ number on the internet, and we called them to inquire about his parents, our dear friends from Rio Hondo. We learned that their house had lost the roof during hurricane Dolly, forcing them to move to an apartment in Harlingen. They were in the house when the roof went but escaped with some pictures. We called Don and talked with him a short while. We were encouraged with his positive spirit. They are both Christian people and their faith will sustain them. Janice will take much longer to recover than he. Our friends the Bollingers visited and brought some garden produce including rhubarb. We have been wanting some of that so we chopped and cooked it down immediately. When it cooled down some, we went to walk the lake and come to the hotel to use the wireless high speed Internet so I could publish some pictures. Unfortunately I forgot to bring the camera which must have some more in it that need to be loaded into the computer.
