One wild day.
Saturday was quite a day. We were up at 7 and eating pancakes at 8. We don't normally go, but this was the final serving this season. The pancakes were delicious. We were off to a local park to serve the hospital by working at a booth at the Onion Festival. We had a blessed experience. We happened to be down at a "roulette" wheel that asked nutritional questions about diet. The questions usually used has been misplaced, so Evelyn had to create questions. She was "in my element". Extremely happy we stood there for more than an hour. People spun the wheel, I asked silly questions, she asked the correct ones, and I handed out stickers to those who spun the wheel and pencils to those who answered correctly. We worked for 3 hours and then walked around the grounds. Normally we buy 50 pounds of onions there but none was ready. The winter had been too cold. Actually this was good for us because we won't leave here for almost a month. We watched a bit of the horse show that we had watched last year and then left. We wanted to have an onion blossom but would have had to stand in line for about an hour in the hot sun. We decided to go to Chilis and have one. A woman at the festival had said they sold them. They didn't. They had something that was a poor substitute so we ate that. I didn't like them. We also had some fried cheese. That was our supper. I went to bed for a nap because I thought I would be up late because of the plan to go to the basketball game. Tom, Dan and I left for Hildalgo at 6 and arrived at the arena very early. I practiced my sermon on the way there and on the way back. We chatted and then went toward the door. We had 4 tickets, and I hated to waste it. I began looking for someone to give it to before we went in. A man from Germany asked if we had tickets. He had tried to buy 2 but was told they were sold out. We only had 1 and he wanted 1 for his "wife" also. Another man came by with his son with 1 extra ticket. The German man was willing to buy the tickets but wanted them together. I finally decided I would let them sit with Tom and Dan if he would buy the other ticket. Finally the man with the son said he would give the ticket away. I had intended to do that with mine since I had won it, so the German couple got free tickets and everyone was happy. We went inside and the German man insisted on buying us a drink so Dan and I had a beer and Tom (the driver) had a Pepsi. As it turned out, the arena was about half empty. Evidently many corporate sponsors had bought the tickets but people didn't come. I sat up in the corner by myself for the first half and then moved down with my friends. I left a much better seat than they had. We left before the end of the game and were home by 10:20. I was in bed by the regular time.
