Making it home

Wednesday was more eventful than the others this week.  We awoke in time to eat and take our laundry to a local Laundromat.  This was the first bit of excitement.  It was a very nicely organized business and reasonably priced.  We were finished early because we had a date with Simon.  We went to the visitor’s center and visited with the Cajun staff working there.  We then walked out onto the swamp observatory and for the first time seriously discussed selling our mobile in Texas.  We want to follow the Lord’s leading so we will “put out a fleece” of a price on our unit.  If He is ok with our leaving, we will get the price; if not, we won’t.  We will set it high enough to be sure of His will.  We went to Simon’s and talked him into driving so we wouldn’t have to drop our trailer.  There is not adequate parking for us went to downtown.  We went to Dwyer’s for catfish and a visit.  We hadn’t been there for a few years.  We visited until time for our naps and returned to our room.  We decided to go to Randol’s for dinner and dancing.  We didn’t want to overeat again and just ordered gumbo and bisque.  We danced until 8:30, stopped to get fuel and loaded some items into the car.

The drive to Texas was exciting because we  found gas for $2.99 in Orange. I wanted to post a picture of the sign but found the camera battery was dead.  We stopped at the swamp welcome center and looked for an alligator.  We found none and drove on to Winnie, home of Al T’s.  We shared the sampler platter and took half of it with us for the evening.  Even then it was too much for us.  I wanted to take a different route, so we drove to the Galveston ferry and then took some back roads to Victoria, Texas We had a nice La Quinta room even though we arrived after dark.  The Sleep Inn at Lafayette was under renovation and was a mess.  We think it will be wonderful in the spring when we return to the north.  Of course we had bought some boudin, crawfish tails, pork Tasso and Andouille to use in making gumbo and etouffee this winter.

We left for the Valley around 9.  We had decided to skip the Wurstfest this year because no one could meet us there.  Of course the farther south we traveled, the warmer it got.  We arrived at our mobile home at 3, met the neighbors waiting for us and began to unpack.  Glenn Lemke had turned on the water and electricity for us so it was comfortable.  Judy Kruse, who had her right leg amputated after we left in April, met us and seems to be doing quite well with her prosthesis.  We thank God for her recovery.  We always have to clean the cupboards, refrigerators and closets before we get too much put into them.  I do the unloading and some of the cleaning.  We finished our carryout meal and went to the HEB grocery for some supplies.  We continued until about 10:30 and collapsed.  I tried to find someone who might know how to connect our Direct TV receiver and thought of Marilyn Froment, a neighbor from Canada.  She will come to connect it tomorrow morning after they shuffle.

Saturday was wonderfully temperate in the morning as we continued our work.  I was especially happy because I brought the things inside.  It was about 11 when Lloyd and Marilyn came to work.  She took nearly an hour but did figure out how to do it.  The blessing was she finished just as the Purdue game began.  Evelyn and I ate cottage cheese and apples stuffed with peanut butter for lunch as we watched some of the game.  The big shock was that Purdue won!  This was the first time in 5 weeks, keeping their slim bowl hopes alive.  I called Joe since Bonny is our of town and invited him to go out to supper with us.
