Unexpected volunteering
We had had some problems sleeping last night, so we weren’t up so early. We did go to the lake and began our walk when it was cool. But just after we started, the sun came out, gradually heating us up. When we got about half way around to the hotel, I sent Evelyn on and went to the hotel. I did that because I was dressed to go shopping and didn’t want to get too sweaty. She brought the car back, picked me up and drove to Belk to look for a shirt for me to wear when I read the scripture on Sunday. We found an orange one we liked but found only two—one too small and one too large. We found a blue one that fit and complemented my sport coat. From there we went to the Open Door to give a couple of items to the thrift store. When I went in, the director told me of a shortage in servers today. We decided to go in and help for a while but didn’t stay to help clean up. We came home for lunch and then I went to the golf course to meet John. It was quite warm but the price for him goes down after 2. I played very badly. I had taken 2 beers for us to drink, and they happened to be one he liked. I had paid his green fee which was about the same as the price of the beer. After we finished, he went to the grocery and bought one for him and one me. He delivered it on his way home. He was also kind enough to take the remnants of our old wishing well. He has a place to burn the wood. While I played golf, Evelyn watered the plants and warmed up the ribs for supper and rested. We ate and then went to Haywood Community College to usher for Folkmoot again. We stayed for the entire performance. Most of them were the same that we had seen before, but Evelyn liked them a lot. We were home in time for the 10 O’clock news.
