Fun on Independence Day

Fun decorating the Saturn for the parade.
We had another leisurly rising but had to leave for the parade route about 9:45. We arrived at Lambuth Hall at 10 to decorate our Saturn. The pictures above show the procedure. We were all happy with the results. I drove the car, the kids and Stacy threw candy to the crowd, Tom walked with Beethoven, their dog, and Evelyn walked along side. We yelled "Happy Independence Day" to the crowd instead of "Happy 4th". It is too easy to forget what the holiday it for. We drove to the area where box lunches of barbecue were sold. Surprisingly, the barbecue was very good and the servings were generous. This is not usually the case with NC barbecue. Two bluegrass bands, a magician, and a clogging group were there to entertain. There were also many games for the kids. We came home and relaxed until just before dinner time. Mom and Grandma had decided to wear the kids out by challenging them to a relay race around Cottage Loop. It is not too far but we tried to protect the aged. The adults had four on their team while the kids had two. Each of them ran twice around the loop while we ran only half way once. I am too competetive, I guess, because I ran too fast and thought I would never catch my breath. When I did, I grilled some New York strips I had bought last week and some bratwurst and hot dogs. Everyone seemed to enjoy them. Around 8 we left for Lake Junaluska to watch the fireworks. They were good but no better than those after a baseball game. I think there is some mystique associated with watching them over the water. We went right home because I have to work tomorrow and the company will leave before I get home. I am supposed to play golf at 3:20 but rain is predicted.
