Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday)
Fat Tuesday was a day of blessings. Evelyn exercised while I prepared to go to the Mayor’s Prayer Luncheon. Before I left the man form our park came to clean the carpet in the Texas room. He did a great job. I helped Evelyn move the furniture on to the screen porch. He uses a “buffer” to clean with and I helped him move all the furniture that needed to be moved for cleaning. There were many chameleon “turds” all over the hidden places he cleaned. When he finished, I got him to help move the furniture back when he finished. I had to leave to pick up Don and drive to McAllen. Evelyn went to the Bible study in the park. Don and I rode to the Civic Center using the Magellan 360. I will learn to use that thing yet. It did get us there and back. We heard Pat Sommerall, former NFL and CBS broadcaster celebrity. He had a great testimony. We had a good “box” lunch with the price of or ticket. We came home and the painter came to say that Enrique has not been available for several days. He had to hire someone else to replace Enrique and doesn’t know where he is. He will try to find him via his girlfriend. I called Mike after 9 as he requested and he said that the girl friend told him that E. planned to come to work here Saturday. I am not extremely optimistic. We went to the Mardi Gras party and dance at the hall. There were many people in costume for the Mardi Gras and a sandwich meal. I was blessed to have been asked to request the blessing. One of the residents, a retired doctor, was the MC for the coronation and gift exchange. Many park residents dressed in costume and brought “gifts” to the “king and queen” of the Mardi Gras. It was really fun and funny. After the dinner, there was a dance featuring 13 pieces that played Big Band music for the dancing pleasure of the people who attended. We had beer and wine to drink as well as sodas. You may guess I drank more than my share of beer and wine. We came home before the end of the dance because Evelyn wanted to come home. I wrote this and watched TV and the news.
