The Feast

Today is the annual Feast of Sharing. HEB grocery chain provides a ham dinner for anyone who wants to come. They have programs of this kind in more than 28 locations throughout Texas and Mexico where they have stores. We were scheduled to work from 12-2, so we ate at 11:30. We delivered sodas to those eating. I carried a tray of about 20 while Evelyn delivered them. I soon discovered that the tray was much lighter if I didn’t fill it. One man who had finished his shift was going to put what he had left into my tray, but I stopped him. The people are brought in and seated in a large Catholic church hall that held 20 30 foot tables on each side of the hall. The plates of ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, mixed vegetables and a piece of pie were delivered by volunteers also. It is HEB’s way of saying thanks. There was also a band stage that featured at least 2 bands. We danced 3 songs and were thanked by one older man for being the first. There were also some inflatable jump toys and a climbing wall for the children and free popcorn for all. We went to Joe and Bonny’s for a piece of pastry filled with raisins and other things. It tasted good but was tough to cut and chew. We enjoyed conversation with them before returning home so I could tweak the message for tomorrow. We had had an interesting day serving our Lord.
