End of the week fun.

Thursday was a big golf day.  Gary, Jimmy and I drove to High Vista course and played 18 holes.  I was suspicious about whether the course would be open due to the excessive rain we have had.  It was but there was much potential water damage.  In fact part of one cart path was broken up from water flowing under it.  This has been a trend everywhere around here.  One house is unlivable because it slowly slides down a hill.  This is only one example.  Back to golf.  I had a Groupon that allowed 2 to play for $25 each, but there were 3 of us.  I had called and asked if the 3rd could receive the same rate.  The manager said that would be fine, but he forgot what he had agreed to until I reminded him.  He was gracious on both counts.  As usual, I hit a few good shots but far too many ungood ones.  The other 2 didn’t play well either.  We had fun, however, and were blessed with only 1 brief sprinkle.  We were home by 4, but Evelyn wasn’t.  She had gone to a ladies carry in lunch and then to get a pedicure.  She wasn’t home until after 5.  This was no matter except the bus left for the baseball game at 5:30.  We barely made it.  The new driver for the Rec center is quite a clown and we had a good time.  We like to go with him on Thursday because that is dollar beer night, and he is our designated driver.  We shared a taco salad during the first game that was rained out last night and then moved to the first row behind the plate for the second game.  The Tourists won them both.  We were home by 11.

Friday drew us to the Rec center to work out.  We had slept late and decided to go to the Zumba session at 11.  We had quite an aerobic workout but left there early.  We were hungry and still  tired from last night.  We cleaned up and rested during the afternoon.  We went to the Friday night street dance in Waynesville after a light pasta salad supper.  Rain had been predicted all day (as it had been all this month) but none came until just half way through the dance.  We danced in the first big round dance before the deluge hit.  We were home by 9 and went to bed early.

Saturday is fleamarket day and we went.  We brought home a bluebird house and a metal butterfly for the lawn.  We then went to the Rec center to work out and were home around 11:30.  After lunch we took a nap and then drove to Asheville to look at a large antique store in an old tobacco warehouse.  We were looking for a garden gate.  We found 2 Evelyn liked but were reluctant to pay their price—especially since we don’t have any use for one.  We took a picture and and sent it to Bonny, asking her to check into the price we might pay for one that a wrought iron worker might charge.  We then took our lawn chairs to the site of the Shindig on the Green in Asheville.  We chose a spot and went to a local restaurant for supper.  I had a coupon for the meal which was very good.  It wasn’t far from the Shindig and we walked back.  We stayed for about half of the performance but left early because Evelyn wanted to drive in the dark.  She is now the driver when we are together because she is too critical of my driving for me to enjoy the process.  We got gas and were home for the 10 o’clock news.

This is the gate Evelyn would like to have made for less than $245.

This is a group of children clogging for the audience at the Shindig.

There is always a large round dance.  In the far middle is a group of around 100 people trying to dance in a space large enough for 40.  It is a lot of fun because we have done it in the past.  We didn’t this evening because we had danced in Waynesville last night.

Many groups of amateurs gather in small groups to just pick together.  They may have duplicate instruments and may sing together.  Regardless some of these groups are as good or better than those performing on the stage.
