Poor landlord
We got up at 7 but were tired. We went off to worship, and I did one of the worst jobs I have ever done. I had my tongue wrapped around my teeth most of the time. We had only one couple at Bible study but were blessed by it. We came home and Evelyn cleaned spinach for the lunch at the Newcomer’s. We worked until 1 when we walked our items to their house. Sharon serves the same meal each year. It is chicken cordon bleu, hoppin’ John, collard greens, Texas trash, marinated herring (ugh) and this year one of the guests brought chocolate cake. Most of the items are part of a southern New Year’s Day tradition. I forgot that Evelyn had made corn bread muffins too. We stayed until 4 when we walked back home. She rested while I fought to keep awake. When she arose, we went for a bike ride around both parks. We ran into Ray and Genny and rode around with them. I decided to go to HEB to get some Bioflex and toothpaste. While I was at home, the renters called from Harlingen. I think he was upset and I can’t fault him: there is no propane, there is a fetid odor under the kitchen sink, there is the possibility that the repair shop will be closed tomorrow, the TV will not work because I left the remote control in NC. (I told him that I would understand if he wanted to find somewhere else to rent). I had called earlier in the afternoon, asking one of the neighbors to send it to us. Of course the mail is closed down tomorrow, making it quite likely that the remote will not arrive until at least Friday. Ray went with me to the grocery and said that Radio Shack had an inexpensive universal remote. I may ask him to meet me after he plays golf in Harlingen tomorrow morning. I came home, and we had just popcorn and a beverage for dinner because we were still quite full from the weekend gluttony. We went to bed earlier ready for tomorrow.
