Cruise day 8

We had to rise, breakfast and meet in the lounge by 7:15. We walked to the pier and boarded a catamaran for a tour of Ushuai Harbor and a trip through the Strait of Magellan. We went close to the rocks that have caused so many shipwrecks over the years. The sea was much more calm than when most of the ships hit them. We saw many penguins and seals sunning themselves. The land on the south side was called Tierra de Fuego because of the fires I discussed yesterday. We saw show capped mountains and a few lighthouses. We also saw the famous cut out statue of the albatross. We were all trying to quote the Rime of the Ancient Mariner and were only partly successful. We saw blue eyed cormorants, sea lins and seals in the Beagle Channel. We were put on lakf and taken by bus through the Tierra de Fuego National Park of Patagonia. Rain had begun and it was cold. Evelyn couldn’t get out of the bus very often. We stopped at 3 sites, all for 15 minutes or less and returned to the ship. We sailed at 2:00 which found us eating and napping shortly thereafter. We are pizza and salad. Evelyn had been cold all day and stayed in bed until 7:30. I wakened and went out to photo the 5 plus glaciers we sailed past in the Chilean Fjords. We met for the show afte wine and dinner after the show. We were asleep by 11 so we could get up tomorrow. Evelyn bought a sweatshirt to wear tomorrow, anticipating another cold day. The shirt says “Rounding the Horn.”
