final day in Acadiana
We were up earlier than I wanted, but Evelyn was finished sleeping. We dressed and went to the sorry breakfast offered by this motel. The only things edible were toaster waffles and bagels. We did enjoy the orange juice. We took a walk to a grocery--about a mile and a half round trip and then went to get our friend Roland Simon. We took him to a small cafe in Maurice for some Cajun seafood. Evelyn and I shared a crawfish platter featuring etouffee, fried crawfish, boulette, crawfish au gratin, bisque, stuffed bell pepper and a bowl of seafood gumbo. It was less expensive and tastier than the one we had last night, but there was no dancing. We drove from there to New Iberia to a K-Mart so I could buy some tennis shoes on sale. I left mine in Texas. I bought two pairs and we got some after shave, toothpaste, and Pepsi for Evelyn. We dropped Simon and went to a place that sold dry ice. We learned it would not last much longer than the regular ice so we didn’t buy any. We will buy some crawfish tails and boudin that is already frozen, continuing to pack it in ice as we travel. It will be messier but we would have to look for places that sell dry ice every two days. There are few places that sell dry ice and sometimes are hard to find. We accidentally found this one. We returned to the motel and rested until time to get some of the frozen food. We picked up some boudin and crawfish tails and brought it back to the motel to put into the cooler. We then went to a restaurant new to us--the Lafayette--and had a spinach salad and a crawfish enchilada. Evelyn loved them but I thought they were just OK. We went on to Randols to dance for a couple of hours. We met a real Cajun women (they are all over the place J) who is a tour guide sometimes. We got some gasoline on the way home. We talked to a couple from Winnipeg who followed us to our motel. They were looking for a place and decided to stay at the Econolodge.
