Yorktown

Up a bit earlier today. We ate cereal for breakfast and were off to Yorktown. It was hot again today--95 by the car thermometer at one point. We first went to the Yorktown Victory Center. It is owned by the state of Virginia and was quite elaborate. There was a good time line that covered the plot for the Revolution and what things were happening at the time. There were many timely quotations by people from both England and the Colonies. Some of the exhibits were outside, some inside. It was always good to get out of the heat into the AC. We saw a film about the disputes and the final engagement at Yorktown. Every historical site seems to have a film of the events there. There was one at Jamestown yesterday too. And one at the National Park, Yorktown Battlefield. The Victory Center offered a simulated encampment and many hands on events for the kids. Noah volunteered to take part in the mock loading of a mortar canon. Both it and a musket were fired by a “soldier”. At the battlefield, it was interesting to see the actual place the battle took place. We were surprised to learn that most of the battle was fought with canon, not infantry contact. We went to a pub for lunch before going to the battlefield. We took many pictures and 4 movie clips, but Andrew has messed up the computer and I have trouble loading them where I would like them. I can’t even find the movie clips even though I know they are in the computer. I will have to find someone to correct this problem for me. Are you busy, Tom? We did laundry at the placed we are parked because we will likely leave here a bit before we had planned. We will leave Saturday. Tomorrow is Independence Day at Williamsburg.
