Really getting into the south

We both wakened at 6 AM for some reason. We readied ourselves for the day and carried our luggage to the car. It was still before 8. I called Scott again but got the same message that the voicemail box was full. I called his work and left a message before we left. He called us but we were well on the way south. We will stop next year when they have finished their new house. We drove after filling up with gas. We found a Wal-Mart where we bought Evelyn some hair conditioner and then went a short distance south to a convenience store that allowed us to use its microwave oven to heat our leftover Chinese food from last night. We went on and decided we probably wouldn’t make Mobile tonight, so we took AL 22 toward MS. I like to drive secondary roads and was headed for the Natchez Trace. We went through historic Selma where a huge civil rights battle took place in the 1960s. Surprisingly to both of us, we drove to Mobile where we began looking for motels. After finding the La Quinta Inn full, we went to a Baymont Inn (priced more than I wanted to pay). It was nice and we enjoyed it. We talked to some people on the phone because it is the weekend. We were blessed to listen via XM radio to Purdue beat Michigan, knocking them out of post season bowl contention. They had been in a bowl 33 years in succession. The only teams I enjoy seeing Purdue beat more are Notre Dame and IU. The drive through Alabama was beautiful: the leaves are turning and the sun was bright all day.
