Pleasant drive to San Antonio
Evelyn didn't go to exercise but I did take a short walk before cutting the grass. I wanted to do that so Glenn wouldn't have to do it before we get back. I dressed for our drive to San Antonio and was on the road by 10. It was an overcast, humid morning but without rain. We went on highway 281, different from our usual path. We stopped in Three Rivers and ate the lunch Evelyn had packed in our car in a Whataburger parking lot. We drove on to San Antonio without incident, praise God. The GPS took us to the Amtrak station but to no use--it doesn't open until 9 PM. We will scan our barcode for our ticket in the morning. We found our way to the hotel with the Lord's help and were surprised to learn that the Red Roof Inn had a free parking garage that is secure. I had been concerned about leaving the car in the downtown area but am now confident. We walked down to the Alamo area and looked inside the Menger hotel where Teddy Roosevelt recruited members of the Rough Riders. I always admired him but learned recently that he was a progressive and thought abortion was an acceptable way of controlling the population, especially of those who were retarded or crippled. We shared a double dip of Hagen Daz icecream before returning to the hotel. We finished off the food we had brought from home. We went to bed at 9, leaving a wake up call for 4:15.
