a life spared

It was another drizzly day. We got up but could not walk because of the weather and Evelyn’s appointment. We left far earlier than we needed because she forgot that our clocks are an hour earlier than the actual time. We left and went to New Haven. Among other things we went to Casterline’s and learned that Paul will be coming home this week. He has been in Miller’s Merry Manor and can come home if the house passes the inspection of the therapists. It will. We had to get a stamp for a letter to Stacy and then went on to Pauline’s. I left Evelyn there and went on to the campus to use the e-mail and internet. I stayed until 11:30 and went to UNO for a free pizza. Since Evelyn wasn’t along, I ordered a deep dish pizza that had the best crust I have ever had. It was almost like pie dough. I saved half of it to share. Meanwhile Evelyn had gone to Oakwood Inn in Wawasee with Pauline and some other friends. They had lunch and Evelyn brought me half of her Reuben sandwich. They visited many places in northern Indiana. I went on to the auction to talk with Darrell. He gave me some advice and thought he might come tonight to change the plugs or I could come to the auction Thursday. I went to Auto Zone to buy the spark plugs and an air filter that they installed. I went to Pauline’s to wait for Evelyn who was supposed to be back at 3. She arrived nearer to 4. In the meantime a man on a 20 foot ladder was cutting a limb from an oak tree with a chain saw. As he worked I saw the limb fall but, it was so heavily leafed that I lost sight of him. When the limb reached the ground, he was out of sight. I worried that he might have fallen on the chain saw. As a blessing, he had hit the kill switch and thrown the saw aside as a catcher might throw his mask. Other workers ran to his aid, and I went to offer chaplaincy help. He had some minor cuts on his face but claimed to be fine. He didn’t want prayer or comfort so I went back to the car and waited for Evelyn. When she arrived, we left and saw the worker limping along favoring his arm. He had to be hurt with a possible broken arm. We came back to the unit and decided to take this opportunity to eat Pizza King pizza, our favorite. We bring it home so I can have beer. While waiting for the pizza, we went to the grocery and rented a video for the evening A House in Tuscany. We watched it. We had trouble with our reception so I had to watch it too. I don’t know if I will ever understand the television in the motor home. We have a light day tomorrow, meeting Tom and Janet for lunch and opting to skip the dinner series event in the evening. We will have the leftovers we brought home from today’s lunches.
