Folkmoot and Sunday fun

We arose intending to go to the international festival in downtown Waynesville but it was raining hard. Barry called saying they were not coming to meet us, thinking it would rain all day. We to town so Evelyn could check in with Weight Watchers. She has maintained her ideal weight. We then went to the library to send several e-mails and then came home for lunch. Around 1 the rain stopped but we decided to not return. We did some outside work and then went to walk. We returned home and got ready to go back to the college to usher again. We did. I am surprised that this is the third performance that we have seen and each dance by each country has been different. We left before they were finished and came home.
Sunday was worship with the new pastor. He is a young man with a small daughter and did a nice job of presenting God’s word to us. The choir sang again. I must say that our weekly rehearsals are not in vain. We are used more than any other choir I have been in. We came home after church to get our tickets to the musical variety show we attended with Paul and Shirley. We went to Dillsboro for lunch at the Jared House. I was personally disappointed in the seasoning of the food. It was served family style but each entree could be different. Shirley had chicken and dumplings, I had rainbow trout, and Paul and Evelyn had southern fried chicken. My trout was good but the sides of mashed potatoes and green beans were somewhat tasteless. I would not return there but am glad we went. The variety show was in the new auditorium at Western Carolina University. The air conditioning had been repaired earlier in the morning and wasn’t yet running at full capacity so it was hot. The program, Gurl and Girl, was a couple who did a review of the 50’s. They really worked hard and sweat more than they usually would have. The first half of the show was mediocre but the second half was much better. They impersonated Lucille Ball, Liberace, Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis. The man was a masterful pianist, playing pop and semi classical. He was great and so was she. The show began around 3:10 and lasted until at least 5:30. What a grueling day that was for them. We returned home and had popcorn. We watched a movie Anne of Green Gables because we had no television. We have dropped Dish network and will have Direct TV installed tomorrow. The movie was longer than Gone with the Wind without intermission. We began watching at 8:00 and weren’t finished until 10:45. It was really good and heart warming. We finally got to bed much later than we had planned.

Days at work

Work again Wednesday but was able to drive. Evelyn went to Asheville with Shirley. They walked on the streets downtown and visited man small shops. They had lunch at a vegetarian restaurant. We had a moderate day and I returned home, showered, and went to the hotel for computer work. We met back at home and had dinner. We went to choir practice and then came home to rest for tomorrow. I also called Rexhall in CA and was told they wanted the original bi-fold from the stove so they could match it. I got mad at the runaround. I wonder if I can trust them with the original because we may never get it back and will have nothing. We will have to pray hard about that.
I worked again and said good-bye to Renita who will be working at the casino by the time I come back to work. Josh wasn’t there so I wasn’t able to confirm Sunday’s church with him. Shirley had decided I would be too tired to golf after work and then go to usher for Folkmoot in the evening. We rested and then went to Haywood Community College to usher. The performances were better than those at Lake Junaluska on Sunday. I was able to talk a bit with one of the performers from New Zealand. I was surprised to learn that English is their official language. Some of their pictures are on previous posts.
We were up early and off to Franklin to pay our traffic fine. We were able to get the speed reduced to prevent an increase in our insurance rate. I guess that will work although I was surprised that was even a question. Unfortunately, they take only cash or money orders so we have to go to the bank in Waynesville to get the money. We learned that a postal money order is only ¼ the price of a cashiers check. We went to our motor home at the Jones’ and put the Baptist hymnals in there to be out of our way. We then meandered back through a little town, Bryson City and had lunch at a very nice local diner. For dessert we had strawberry/rhubarb cobbler that was also very good. We went to the library for the annual book sale and got a big box of romance novels for Evelyn. We came home and just snacked for dinner and then went downtown to see what the entertainment was at Pheasant Hill and Towne Square. The only thing was a woman guitarist who sang old hits. We shared a piece of cake and came home by 8 to watch TV and go to bed early.

postponement

Off to another “week” of work. I called Shirley and cancelled Thursday’s golf date because we can’t play at Waynesville Country Club on her coupon until after 4. The problem is that we have to usher at 6:10. Instead we will play at Lake Junaluska at 3, paying the regular price. Work was usual, nothing much happened. We were busy for a long time, at least at the drive through. Evelyn came around 10:30 after she walked and got herself a crispy chicken crunch wrap for her lunch. I had the same. She came for me at 2:30 and brought me home. We rested and then had a meffelato sandwich she had made and some Norwegian summer fruit soup for dessert. We then planted a flower and watched The Pink Panther. People who have never seen the originals might find it humorous but we were rather bored with it.

Pictures of the 'foolkmoot parade

More Folkmoot

Dancers from Mexico and Canada

We went to Junaluska to worship since we had no one to meet at OSLC. There was a pastor from Brazil who spoke Portuguese. There was an interpreter. The music was sung in both English and Spanish. Evelyn then walked while I did computer work. We came home, had lunch and rested. I was, for some reason, wiped out again and slept hard for over an hour. We dressed and went to OSLC for the installation service for our new pastor. The choir sang and sounded very well. We came home for our block party at the neighbor’s house next door. She grilled hamburgers and the carry in items were delicious. After that we went back to Stuart auditorium for our free viewing of the Folkmoot performances. Our next viewing will be at Haywood Community College when we usher. We didn’t get to see all of the groups, but saw most of them. I don’t think they are as good as last year’s. The dance from Columbia bordered on obscenity. Our neighbor who owns an apple orchard near here asked me if I want to work at their huge fruit stand. I will have to discuss terms before I make a commitment. I like working at Taco Bell and it is much closer for Evelyn to take me to work so she can have the car.

Saturday

Hungry men at the breakfast.

Saturday was the men’s breakfast at church. We always watch a short video of Max Lucado after breakfast, and then I try to get a discussion about it going. This morning was more successful than some days. The men then helped place tables for tomorrow’s ordination dinner. I came home and we went to the lake to walk. It was lunch time when we finished and then time to begin our projects for the day. Evelyn vacuumed the car while I applied stain to the sewing machine she bought for Olivia. I also brought in the cables and ran them from the satellite box to the television set. It made the picture 100% better. I then washed the car and Evelyn helped chamois it. We then took our showers and had some peach cobbler she had made. We agreed that it was mediocre, lacking in proper sweetness. I watched part of the NASCAR race and the baseball game. We decided to see if we can get tickets to the race at the Lowes Motor Speedway next May. One of our friends from Trail’s End has a son who buys tickets for all the races each year and may sell some tickets to us. We didn’t eat a proper supper but went off looking for the house of one of Evelyn’s high school friends. He and his wife live about three miles from here in the mountains. We found the house but no one was home. We then went down town to Pheasant Hill, a very general store and listened to some trio from Florida that sang original compositions by one of them. We didn’t like them much and came home to popcorn. We also watched Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Weber. The man is a musical genius. It was difficult to follow all the meanings in the play but the music was great. I think the theme is the struggle of good and evil that is constant within each of us but will have to watch it more times for more understanding. I also contacted the couple we are trying to get to church but neither can come tomorrow. We will try again next week.

lessons learned

Work again. Wednesday is the day the supply truck comes to Taco Bell. The young strong guy that works with us puts the items on the shelves. I tried to help him because he helped me with my indoor prep--put trash bags into the trash cans, lay out some of the mats, etc. I collected money at the drive through and then left at the usual time. Evelyn had gone with Shirley to Asheville so I had the car. I went to the Baptist center and got the hymnals they don’t use anymore to take to Texas. They are the same ones we use at Trail’s End. They had 28. We will need them if our attendance continues to grow as it did last year. I then went to the bank to deposit the checks from JNL and my work. From there I went to the hotel to play with the computer until 5. I arrived home just as Shirley had dropped off Evelyn. We had some tortilla soup for dinner and then went to choir practice. Evelyn had bought a basket of peaches at the Farmer’s market and had to peel many of them so they won’t spoil so quickly. Then to bed. Work tomorrow.
Thursday work again. Yesterday was slow but today was the reverse. We were very busy during a thunderstorm--at least the drive through was. We have a small ledge to protect both me and the customers from the rain, but most of them seemed to drift to the middle of the driveway and then whine that they were getting wet. Only two drivers were saavy enough to drive close. As I was leaving, I noticed how filthy the dining area was. I guess they were as busy as I was. I can’t believe that because I don’t think people would run in from the rain. I thought they were all coming through my window. At any rate I couldn’t leave the place that dirty so I stayed a bit longer to sweep. One of our good assistant managers is leaving to work at Harrah’s casino in Cherokee. She has been with Taco Bell for 8 years. “I’m tired of working my butt off and then seeing the managers get the bonuses. She will be missed but life goes on. I came home for dinner and then remembered I had not transferred some money to cover a credit card payment. I went back to the hotel to do that via the Internet while Evelyn went to an association meeting about the sign and the landscaping. She also asked if we could park our coach on the street in the event of the Beeli’s visit. Everyone there approved. We stayed up later since I am off tomorrow and made plans to go to Chimney Rock tomorrow.
We walked and came home to prepare to go to Chimney Rock. While looking for something else, I saw that the Folkmoot parade was scheduled for today, not tomorrow as we had thought. That ended the Chimney Rock plan. We ate lunch and then went to watch the parade. We parked in the parking garage on the 3rd floor. We took the elevator with several other people and they got off on the 6th floor. We thought that strange but went on to the street level floor and walked quite a way uphill to the parade street. We then noticed that the 6th floor was on the street level on the east side of the street! We will remember that for a while. It was hot and humid but overcast as a blessing. Early in the parade of the countries visiting the area a nice gentle rain began and lasted around 20 minutes. No one melted and the parade went on. We then went with Paul and Shirley so they could have lunch. We just had a drink and bought some blackberry cobbler to take home.
We came home for tortilla soup and the blackberry cobbler that was quite good. We then got ready to go to the dance. We met a few couples we had met last year and met a new couple--Bill and Linda Marquis who live in Clyde. We enjoyed the dance but left ½ hour before it ended. Earlier in the day I had complained about the color on our new set and the owner’s son gave me some new cables that he says will fix the problem. I also saw a sale at a video store. It offered 3 DVDs for $25, and I bought Phantom of the Opera, The Pink Panther (the Steve Martin version), and Polar Express.

Life in the slow lane

Monday we walked in the morning. The wooden bridge that is the bank of the dam that forms Lake Junaluska was closed so we had to go around a different way. We then went to the Open Door to serve the indigent. We have a good time doing that and are even getting to know some of the regulars. It is good to see so many of them looking for jobs. Unfortunately, they are limited in the area they can work because most of them don’t have cars and have to walk wherever they go. I know a couple of them could work at Taco Bell but can’t walk that far to work. The meal at the Open Door was not appealing so we went shopping for groceries and came home for lunch at 2:30. We continue eating leftovers. We always seem to have leftovers. Of course, they are delicious because Evelyn made most of them. We walked around the neighborhood trying to notify the remainder of the residents of the cook-out next Sunday. Each person will bring a dish. We had popcorn and ice cream before retiring. I have to work tomorrow.
Off to work. I did the usual except for getting my paycheck. It was not quite as much as I was expecting but the computer rules. I was very tired when I finished. Evelyn picked me up, and we came home. I have begun taking my daily shower after work because I think it better to be clean for my family than for the job site. Afterward, I went to the living room and fell asleep in my lazy boy. I can usually fight the sleep but not today. We ate what we had brought home Sunday from our lunch and then just vegetated until time to go to bed. Evelyn had a great day in that she got a permanent. She finally gave up looking and paid the $50 that had been quoted to her last week. Things are expensive around here. We are too accustomed to life in the Rio Grande Valley.

Sunday

We went to church to meet the young family but were disappointed when they never came. The service was led by two of the laity in the church since the new pastor begins next week. I know I would have done a better job of leading worship, but am confident the Lord had a better plan. We went to the Haywood Cafe at one of the local truck stops for lunch. It was very crowded but don't know why. Our meals were mediocre albeit plentiful. We came home for the afternoon and went to Maggie Valley for the band concert during the evening. It was good as usual and afterward went to Paul and Shirley's for peach cobbler. Paul is miserable with his gout. He said every joint in his body ached. No wonder he is such a curmudjon, bitter and nasty most of the time. I would be also if I felt as bad as he must. We came home around 10 and retired.

funb in the mountains

going to shop and then walk before going to the church to work. But when we began shopping, I found a smoker just like the one I have except it has all the grates and the charcoal pan is not burned through. I got it for $20. I thought I had bought two plastic garbage pails too but they had been sold to another lady before I got there. We also found a sewing machine in good shape for Olivia. A couple who live on the lake had a truck and helped me bring the items home while Evelyn walked. We then went to Taco Bell in another attempt to talk with the young man about church. He came in later today but did call us at church to say he and his wife would meet us tomorrow for worship. We had rather hoped to attend a different church tomorrow but will keep our commitment. We may even take them to lunch after church. We worked at the church for a couple of hours cleaning the floors and refrigerator and then came home for lunch. We rested in the afternoon and then looked for someone to go to the Shindig with us but could not find aFriday we went to walk, and I went to Taco Bell to invite Josh, a new worker from Miami, to church. I want us to be there if he and his wife come. He wasn’t there and so we went on. Perhaps I will see him tomorrow. We then went to get the motor home. Evelyn wanted to call to ask Paul and Shirley to go along. They agreed and we hooked up the Saturn and set out for Franklin. We went to the Jones house and met the neighbor who is watching the place for them. We set up the coach and then drove through Franklin to find the courthouse. From there we drove through Dillsboro to Sylva and on to Cullowhee, home of Western North Carolina University. It is a unique place in that the town is about half a dozen stores and the university makes up the other 95% of the town. We bought tickets to a comedy review on July 30, a gift from Shirley for Paul’s birthday. We then returned to Waynesville and went To DuVall’s restaurant for a rainbow trout dinner. It was very good but then we ordered blackberry cobbler that was terrible. It was evidently some that had been frozen from some other day. We should have accepted the cobbler of the day: cherry. We then parted from Paul and Shirley. We came home and I tried to find a movie on the PPV channel but couldn’t learn how to order one or even what channel it was on. We just watched some other programs.
Today we were up in time to go to the Lake Junaluska garage sale. We found a smoker like we have only in much better condition and a sewing machine for Olivia. We went to Taco Bell to invite the young man to church but he came in later, so we left our cell number and went to help clean the church. He called and agreed to meet us tomorrow morning with his wife. We worked cleaning the kitchen refrigerator and window wells and left for home at noon. We had lunch and rested for the night's activities. We tried to find a couple to go to the Shindig on the Green in Asheville but could find no one. We went alone but were about an hour early. We had forgotten the start time. There was a group of cloggers there featuring several obese women. We can’t understand how they can clog regularly and practice regularly and remain so fat. But they do. We left around 9 and drove home. We called the Beelis again to talk with Noah who turned 11 last week but got no answer. We also talked with Bonny Winston again encouraging them to come for a visit. We also decided to visit Roswell in August.

Many more days

Sunday brought uplifting worship. The choir sang a lovely praise hymn. I was able to talk with the circuit counselor about being pulpit supply, and he agreed to talk with the district president about me. We had expected to meet with Mary Lou Salmons but she didn’t come. We went to see how she was and invite her for lunch. She wanted to clean their trailer and agreed to meet us here for lunch tomorrow. We came home and had leftovers and rested in the afternoon. We went to walk around 5 and came home for popcorn around 6:30. We watched a TV movie, 50 First Dates. It was pretty good and we enjoyed it. I watched two other programs and the news before retiring. I continued to feel better as the day went on. I was a bit dizzy at church but became stronger throughout the afternoon.
Monday we slept late and then prepared lunch for Mary Lou while Ron was in NM. We had thought we could all go to some natural attraction in the area, but she had seen all of them. She left and we then rested until 3 and went to walk. We went to where we have the motor home stored and learned that they not only can’t rent it out but want us to move it. We checked with two other storage places and then thought of an offer Tom Jones had made last year. I called him and he said we could park at their home in Franklin. We will have to move it sometime this next weekend. Then we came home for dinner. We watched TV and worked on a Bible study for next week.
I was up and off to work. It was a slow day but tiring. I left at the usual time: 2:30. We came home and rested until time to prepare for dinner with Bill and Pat Smith. To our surprise they brought their grandson, Phil with them. They came and Bill played his guitar and sang for two hours. Some of the neighbors came, even though I had invited all the neighborhood. There was a light shower for a few minutes but everyone stayed. Bill is a good Christian who has sung gospel music for years. They live in “The Villages” in FL and want us to visit them. We will see.
Wednesday was work again followed by volunteering to park cars at the tour of homes at Lake Junaluska. What a bore! I didn’t have much to do since nearly everyone traveled by trolley or van. I was not told to bring a chair or book or fishing pole. At least it didn’t rain on me much. We came home and I heated meat for our supper. I over cooked it so I am forbidden to operate the microwave again. J We talked with one of the neighbors about going to Savannah in our rigs. She and another neighbor really want to do it, but I am not sure about her husband.
Thursday I woke earlier than I wanted and went off to work. We had a meeting of all the employees about new procedures and getting more work done. This hard to reach Taco Bell is in the top 5 producers in the 42 store region. They must be doing something right. I was commended about my keeping the store clean. Hooray! Evelyn went to a lunch with some church ladies and was late in picking me up, but that was fine as it allowed me to make up some of the time I lost yesterday while volunteering. We came home and rested. We had leftover steak and Evelyn went to a house party of some kind. They want to sell her something like a Tupperware party used to do. We have to take the motor home to Franklin tomorrow morning. The good news for today is that we received our federal tax refund check and a rebate check from Citibank. I have been worried since the Ameritrade check was forwarded to the wrong address. I have one more coming from Jackson National Life. We also received our letter confirming our assignment to usher at Haywood Community College for the Folkmoot performances. We will enjoy that.

Many days

I returned to work Wednesday and did my regular routine. Around noon Stacy and Tom and the kids came in for lunch on their way home. We had a short visit in the dining room and then they came through the drive through so they could see me gathering money. I finished my shift and then Evelyn came home and changed clothes for golf. We met Shirley and off we went to play the back 9 at Lake Junaluska course. I was playing my usual lousy game for three holes and then the downpour came. We tried to wait it out but gave up and went to the clubhouse for a rain check. We had planned to play with the Salmons but got word that his brother had died in Albuquerque. It is better this way because of the rainout. Shirley brought me home because Evelyn had not come after me yet. I talked her into calling Paul to come for bratwurst sandwiches and an evening of cards. We played until 10 and then they left so I could go to bed.

I went to work again but didn’t do everything I usually do because it had rained last night. I cleaned the windows with a good rubber squeegee and received a comment from the assistant manager in that I am the only employee that he knows who cleans windows this way. I think that is strange since every professional window cleaner I know uses a squeegee. I worked the drive through window again. I think that is where I will be most of the days I work. Shirley came through and said we could use our rain check at 3:30. I was pretty tired but didn’t want to say no. So we went to again play the back 9, and I repeated my atrocious play. I might have made 4 good shots during the entire round. I don’t know why I play at all. Afterward we all met Paul and the Salmons at the “Butts on the Creek” restaurant in Maggie Valley. We had a good time and helped Ron a bit in his grieving. He will fly to NM Saturday but Mary Lou will stay here. We will try to entertain her some while he is gone. We came home despite two invitations out. I was still tired so we came home and watched a good movie, Mumford. It was about a man who was a good listener and everyone loved to talk to him. It is probably not great as a family film but is good.

Friday was a day we had plans. We went to walk and then drove to Franklin for lunch with the Conovers. He is the lay minister whom I replace once in a while. They live in a beautiful setting near Franklin and not far from where Tom and Luann Jones live. They prepared lunch of barbecued chicken. Afterward they drove us up to Highlands, NC, a little tourist town in the mountains. On the way we saw many beautiful waterfalls and other breathtaking scenery. We also had breathtaking twists and turns on our way up the mountain. We left them about 5 and drove back to Waynesville. We had planned all week to go to the street dance but were too tired. We came home to rest and decide whether to go back or not. We decided not so we watched the other movie Evelyn had checked out of the library, Mona Lisa Smile. It was a typical feminist film that somewhat ridiculed the role of women as stay-at-home moms. I didn’t like the them but the picture was good in many other ways. We went to bed early again, hoping to get a better night’s sleep than last night. We have a work day at church tomorrow morning.

Saturday was a wash out for me. I got up in the morning very dizzy. The room was spinning violently. This lasted the remainder of the day until around 7:00 PM. I was so bad that I was afraid to stand to urinate. I spent the day in bed and slept through most of it. Evelyn went to the church to help with cleaning the windows and screens. We were both surprised at the people who weren’t there to help. She also ran some errands to the library and got two more DVDs. When I got better, I went to the living room to show and watch My Father’s Glory. It was a good movie but was in French. At least, unlike those in Tahiti last summer, these had English subtitles. We nearly quit on it before we began but are glad we didn’t. I was certainly worried about my condition early on. We have a friend who had an attack of an inner ear disease years ago and was in bad shape for quite a while. Evelyn also remembered that my mother took Dramamine frequently for some sort of dizziness. I hope that isn’t something hereditary that I have to deal with. I also worried that I would not be able to sleep through the night but did. Of course, I am also concerned about a recurrence.

Fun on Independence Day

Fun decorating the Saturn for the parade.

We had another leisurly rising but had to leave for the parade route about 9:45. We arrived at Lambuth Hall at 10 to decorate our Saturn. The pictures above show the procedure. We were all happy with the results. I drove the car, the kids and Stacy threw candy to the crowd, Tom walked with Beethoven, their dog, and Evelyn walked along side. We yelled "Happy Independence Day" to the crowd instead of "Happy 4th". It is too easy to forget what the holiday it for. We drove to the area where box lunches of barbecue were sold. Surprisingly, the barbecue was very good and the servings were generous. This is not usually the case with NC barbecue. Two bluegrass bands, a magician, and a clogging group were there to entertain. There were also many games for the kids. We came home and relaxed until just before dinner time. Mom and Grandma had decided to wear the kids out by challenging them to a relay race around Cottage Loop. It is not too far but we tried to protect the aged. The adults had four on their team while the kids had two. Each of them ran twice around the loop while we ran only half way once. I am too competetive, I guess, because I ran too fast and thought I would never catch my breath. When I did, I grilled some New York strips I had bought last week and some bratwurst and hot dogs. Everyone seemed to enjoy them. Around 8 we left for Lake Junaluska to watch the fireworks. They were good but no better than those after a baseball game. I think there is some mystique associated with watching them over the water. We went right home because I have to work tomorrow and the company will leave before I get home. I am supposed to play golf at 3:20 but rain is predicted.

serving and dancing

This is Bill Smith and his cousin (a professional singer) playing for a dance at Stonebridge RV Park in Maggie Valley, NC.

We arose around 8 Monday and had breakfast. Then we left for our work at the Open Door soup kitchen at Frog Level in Waynesville. The Georges family volunteered to help. They dropped us off and came back after all the meals had been served. I guess they were misdirected as to the time frame. Regardless, they came back and worked hard at helping in the clean up. I ate my lunch there but no one else did so they came home and had tacos for lunch around 2. Olivia had made a date with her friend Annah to meet at the recreation center for swimming. Stacy took Tom, Peter and her to meet them and then returned to work on the banners for tomorrow’s parade. They will decorate the Saturn. I went to the hotel to do computer work. Everyone came home and we had hamburgers that I had grilled last week. Then Tom, Peter and I went to Stonebridge RV to hear Bill Smith and his cousin play. Our ladies came just before 8. We stayed until the dance ended at 9. We were able to dance many times. We invited Bill and Pat for dinner next Tuesday and came home. It had been threatening rain but had held off until the dance was over. We came home and had some popcorn before retiring.

A day of rest

Our friends went to church with us, and we were blessed with Holy Communion. Afterward we went to Bogarts restaurant and enjoyed their chopped steak and sweet potato. We parted with them and came home to rest until the Georges family arrived at 4:30. We spent the evening doing nothing. They were exhausted from the previous week of entertaining friends. I walked up the mountain behind our house and then watched three hours of the History channels account of the Revolutionary War. We retired early.

Shindig on the Green in Asheville, NC.

Clogging groups wear colorful outfits.

This is the best clogging group we have ever seen! Total synchronization.

Hundreds of people enjoying the Shindig

Some groups came from Cleveland, SC.

We were up at 7:45 and went to walk. We returned to the craft sale at the fairgrounds across the highway. Evelyn found an elegant shawl and bought it. We came home around noon and had the remainder of the pizza I had brought home from my birthday “party” at work. We just laid around in the afternoon, waiting to see if Salmons would want to go to the Shindig on the Green in Asheville. They came by and were too exhausted to go. They had spent the day at the Biltmore mansion. Walking around slowly wears me out too. We asked around the neighborhood for someone to go with us and found one of the widows, Anna Sawyer, who could go. We were there at 7 and stayed until 9. We had to face the sun for the first hour and learned where to sit if we go again. We had also taken sodas, a small portion of salami and some cheese so we had something to eat and drink. We saw the best clogging group we have ever seen there. They were in sync with their tapping at all times. There were also several groups. Each group were allowed to play two numbers. We also danced on the grass along with 100 other couples. We were home by 9:30.

Pickin' and clogging in Canton, NC

The lead couple in their "show-off" routine.

The young and the old clog together.

It is good to see children learing the tradition of clogging.

We got up and went to walk. Afterward I did computer work to pay some bills on line. I also sent an e-mail to Clayton asking that they fax another form to me. Evelyn went to the grocery in the meantime. We came home for lunch and worked on preparation for this evening, We also washed the car around 5. The lawn care guys came and blew the grass from the carport because I asked them to. They are very nice guys. Our guests came on time and we had pork I had smoked several weeks ago. We then went to Canton for the pickin’ and clogging. You can see the energy they expend when they clog. The kids are learning too.
